About Me
Hi, I’m Roann Pao (鲍柔恩)
I’m a photographer from Taiwan based in San Francisco, California on a mission to bring the stories of sustainable food and fashion businesses to light with my handy camera and eye for interesting visuals. My goal is to use photos to communicate impactful stories that inspire positive changes in our culture around sustainable ways of living, starting first with what we consume (food) and what we wear (clothes). I believe that together, with intentional effort, we can shift the mainstream ways of consumption and minimize our environmental footprint.
I spent my childhood running around the mountainsides of a hot spring town called Beitou, just north of Taipei. When I was 8, my family moved to America where I finished my remaining childhood years hopping between the two coasts, New Jersey and California.
I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Media Studies and worked in the tech industry for 5 years at start ups in the influencer marketing and health-tech sectors. While being in the tech world had its perks, I yearned to be in nature again — touching the dirt with my bare hands, feeling the warmth of the sun, and hearing the grounding sounds of all the little critters living harmoniously with their environment. I felt envious of them. I knew something had to change. In 2023, I said my final farewell to my tech job and pivoted my career to focus on doing what I love most — storytelling with purpose.
Since then, I have felt an unconditional welcoming and loving embrace from the universe to pursue this new path I set foot on. I hope that each step I take will bring me closer to preserving our environment and I am excited to meet others who are just as excited to be on a similar path as I am.
